Celebrating Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande: A Legacy of Empowerment and Cultural Diplomacy

On April 27, 2024, in the vibrant city of Frankfurt, the Nigerian community gathered for a heartfelt farewell to Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande. The event was marked by a blend of sorrow and gratitude, reflecting the profound appreciation for Ambassador Akande’s remarkable contributions as an advocate for people empowerment within the Frankfurt community.

In attendance were esteemed representatives from various Nigerian-German-based indigenous cultural communities and associations, university alumni organizations, and academic associations. Other notable attendees included distinguished figures such as Mr. Bolaji Agboola (President, NCF), the President of ICO Mainz/Wiesbaden, the President of ICO Mannheim, representatives from Nollywood Practitioners Germany, Ndi Igbo Germany, Mr. Moses Ogun (President, NIDO Germany), and Mr. Odinks Peter (President, NCG).

Ambassador Akande’s tenure as Consul General marked a period of significant advancements in consular engagement and relationship with the Nigerian diaspora community in Frankfurt, underscored by a steadfast commitment to cultural diplomacy. A pivotal achievement of his leadership was the establishment of the inaugural Nigeria-German Cultural Carnival in Frankfurt in 2022. This landmark event aimed to fortify cultural understanding between Nigeria and Germany, fostering an environment of cultural acceptance and diversity within the host country. The carnival served as a platform for promoting tourism, creating economic opportunities, strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing education and awareness, fostering community building, and facilitating cultural exchange between the two nations.

In accordance with our mission to advance global empowerment and development, the Idi-Igiose People Empowerment and Development Foundation (IPEAD) has chosen to spotlight Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande’s invaluable contributions during his tenure.
